Lucha Underground: Ancient Medallions

May 13, 2015 – Los Angeles, California

Dario Cueto tells Matanza that he found the seven medallions of the ancient Aztec tribes. He spent half of their father’s fortune obtaining them. Together, they might even make the luchador who wins them more powerful than Matanza.

Aerostar def. Jack Evans
Running the ropes to get to a guy in the corner makes no logical sense to do. More than one spot in this match required Evans to stand still like a moron with his mouth open for way longer than he should have. Evans talking trash, sometimes in Spanish, throughout the match was fun. It ended up costing him, as Aerostar caught him with an avalanche Canadian Destroyer at 8:32. ***

The Mack spots his cousin Big Ryck counting up money. Ryck thinks Mack is too focused on getting the fans on his side with fancy moves. He wants him to focus more on making money.

Fenix def. Cage, Killshot, King Cuerno, Pentagon, Sexy Star, and the Mack {Ancient Medallion Seven Way Match}
Before the match, Cueto revealed that one of the medallions was on the line here, but he won’t reveal what the medallions really mean. It was cool hearing the crowd get louder and louder as the spots in this match got crazier and crazier. But what I liked most about this match was the little stories throughout. Pentagon and Star going after each other, Mack & Killshot as well as Cage & Cuerno working together, I liked all of that. Fenix got the win with a reverse hurricanrana and a standing moonsault at 10:16. Cage & Cuerno kept brawling with Mack & Killshot after the match. A little sloppy here and there, but mostly a wild ride. ***¾

Cueto sits in his office with the Trios Champions. He’s giving the Crew a title shot. And it’s going to be a ladder match, so Ivelisse better get over her leg injury fast. Later, Fenix is in the locker room when the lights go out. They come back on and Catrina is there, telling him that he fell into her trap. Apparently the feud with Mil Muertas was all a ploy so that he could be reborn even stronger. Catrina disappears and a trio of skull-mask luchadors appears and attacks Fenix. I love when this show gets weird.

Hernandez def. Alberto el Patron {Number One Contender No Disqualification Match}
This was short and unspectacular. Hernandez seems pretty limited. Mundo attacked Patron after a few minutes, hitting him with a DDT on the floor and then throwing him through Ceuto’s office window. The coolest part of that is we see that the ultra-produced segments in his office are actually in the box in the Temple. Love that. Hernandez gets the easy pin at 5:07. The match was nothing, but the Mundo stuff ruled. Patron is carried out on a stretcher. **
