Lucha Underground: Booyaka! Booyaka!

July 26, 2017 – Los Angeles, California

Texano def. The Mack {Second Round Match}
This reminded me a lot of Texano’s matches against Cage. The action was good but there wasn’t much of a story elevating it. The finish was cheap but fun, as Famous B came into the ring, squirted Mack with a little squirt gun, ate a stunner, sold it like crazy, and provided a distraction for Texano to hit the Ligerbomb at 7:17. **¾

Son of Havoc’s drinking at a bar is interrupted by Son of Madness. Havoc says he’s not going back to the MC. They scrap, and Madness says hell make Havoc’s life a living hell until he goes back. Havoc says he went nomad for a reason (whoever wrote this loves Sons of Anarchy). Madness walks out. Elsewhere, the Rabbit Tribe apologizes to Mascarita Sagrada for losing in the Cueto Cup. He gives them a huge present with a card that says “hope this brings better luck.” Inside is a lucky rabbit’s foot.

Pentagon Dark def. Drago {Second Round Match}
Vampiro suggests that the Reptile Tribe has brainwashed Drago because his dragon blood is making Kobra Moon immortal. I didn’t love that they kicked out of so many of each other’s finishers in a match in the middle of the show in the second round of the tournament. Aside from that, this match was fun, and Dark won with the Package Piledriver at 7:56. After the match, Dark tries to break the arm but Moon slithers in. Dark takes her out but Aerostar saves Drago. Drago attacks Aerostar anyway, and Dark picks up the scraps and breaks Aerostar’s arm. ***

Catrina approaches Dark in the hallway and reminds him that he’s the reason Mil Muertes lost the Lucha Underground Championship. Muertes is waiting for him in the Cueto Cup tournament. Dark is not afraid of them.

Rey Mysterio def. PJ Black
This match was solid, if a little slow-paced. Then the referee got knocked out for an absurd amount of time. The Worldwide Underground and El Dragon Azteca all got involved and tried to steal the match for Black (well, not Azteca). That didn’t work, and Mysterio picked up the win at 11:29 with the springboard Frog Splash. Has to be considered a letdown after Black’s match the week before. Mysterio cuts a flacid promo after the match. **¾
