Lucha Underground: Three’s a Crowd

April 13, 2016 – Los Angeles, California

Dario Cueto asks Johnny Mundo & Taya to get along with Cage. He wants them to be one of his unlikely trios teams. They don’t want it but Cueto uses the current Trios Champions as an example of an unlikely team that’s found success. They reluctantly agree.

Killshot def. Argenis
Kind of one-dimensional, but a fine, flippy win for Killshot. He beat Argenis in 4:35 with a diving double stomp and the JML Driver. The amount of military puns that Matt Striker shoved into this thing was embarrassing. **¼

Black Lotus tells Dragon Azteca that she’s faking her allegiance to Dario Cueto and then lies and says that Matanza Cueto killed Azteca’s predecessor. Meanwhile, Cueto welcomes Daga to the Temple and shows him the Aztec Medallions. He grants Daga a match for a medallion and perhaps an eventual Gift of the Gods Championship shot.

Texano def. Daga {Ancient Medallion Match}
This was a solid match between two guys who apparently know each other quite well. I think they got a little carried away with the thigh slaps on every kick, but other than that I quite liked this. Texano won in 7:04 with the sit out powerbomb. ***¼

Catrina tells Mil Muertes that the Disciples of Death are in the trios tournament and apologizes on their behalf. She also reveals that Muertes has a shot at the Lucha Underground Championship next week. She warns him of the champion’s power.

El Dragon Azteca, Rey Mysterio & Prince Puma def. Cage, Johnny Mundo & Taya {Semifinal Match}
Azteca’s dragon hood looks ridiculous next to Puma’s more real-to-life puma hood. This turned out to be a dope bit of business. You had the fun angle of Cage having to fight the luchadores while also dealing with Mundo & Taya being shitty, and then you had the requisite insane flying that you’d expect from everyone involved here. Really fun match. Cage turned on Mundo after some friendly fire, and that left Mundo open for the 630 senton from Puma at 12:53. ***¾

Dario Cueto tells Matanza Cueto that he keeps him in a cage because he’s too valuable to be let out. Next week he’ll destroy Muertes.
