WWE ECW 106

June 17, 2008 – San Jose, California

Hornswoggle def. Armando Estrada
This was a comedy match, featuring slipping on marbles, squirt guns, and Finlay hiding under the ring. I can’t say I wasn’t entertained. Hornswoggle won at 2:03 with a Tadpole Splash. After the match Taz interviews Finlay about what happens under the ring because it wouldn’t be WWE unless they ruined a perfectly good comedy match with something incredibly unfunny after the fact. **

Evan Bourne def. Matt Striker
Bourne gave his whole ass out there, which went a long way to mitigate the workrate black hole that is Striker’s whole shtick. Bourne won in 2:34 with a Shooting Star Press. Knox took out Bourne after the match. **

Kofi Kingston def. Mike Knox
This was going along just fine until Benjamin ran in and got Knox disqualified at 2:57. At least they didn’t make us sit through a long match given that finish. Benjamin accidentally kicks Knox and Kingston escapes. *½

This week, like last week, they patted themselves on the back over and over for the Vince McMahon Million Dollar Mania. What a weird way to pop a rating. Right, anyway, Teddy Long grants Finlay & Hornswoggle a shot at the WWE Tag Team Championships at the upcoming PPV. The Miz doesn’t like that, so Finlay smacks him with the shillelagh.

CM Punk def. John Morrison
This was definitely one of their lesser matches. It just went on and on in front of an interested crowd, and the wrestlers reacted in kind. Whatever they were going for, they didn’t accomplish it here. Punk won in 9:35 with the GTS. **½

The show ends with a confrontation between Big Show and Kane, hosted by Teddy Long. They both think they’ll win, blah blah blah. Mark Henry comes out and says that if he’s not drafted, he’s coming after whoever wins at the PPV. Kane and Show knock him out with a double chokeslam.
