WWE ECW 74

November 6, 2007 – Bakersfield, California

Kane def. Mark Henry
These guys were both really over with the crowd, so it made their slow punching a little more interesting. But then Henry got disqualified for bringing a chair into the ring (weird that the referee didn’t wait for Henry to actually use the chair) and it made me wonder what the point of all this was. Neither of these guys is an ECW guy, so why are we watching inconclusive matches between the two on this show? Henry slams Kane onto the chair after the match. *¾

Jamie Noble def. Nunzio
This was pretty damn good for the very limited amount of time it was given. Noble looked good and didn’t yell anything racist, which I’m sure was hard for him while wrestling a stereotype. **¼

Layla def. Kelly Kelly
Miz let us know that this was part of Kelly’s punishment for dating Balls Mahoney (the night before he had her face Beth Phoenix on Raw). Layla wins after one minute with a bodyslam because women’s wrestling on this show was still a joke (and I guess Kelly was selling the attack from the night before). Mahoney made sure no more harm comes to Kelly. ¼*

Elijah Burke def. Shannon Moore
Nobody talked about why Moore isn’t a reject punk anymore. The two-minute match was action-packed, but the commentators spent the match talking about Burke’s guest appearance on some ghost hunter show. **

Fabulous Moolah died, and the commentators gush over her legacy before showing a video of her. It took 11 years for her status as a disgusting pimp to be exposed to the general public.

Miz and Morrison cut garbage promos against each other backstage. Miz was totally cringeworthy at this point.

CM Punk def. John Morrison {ECW Championship Match}
They packed a lot of action into this five-minute match, but then it ended with Miz coming out and distracting Morrison, giving Punk a roll up win. That’s really quite irritating. **¾
