NXT 06

March 30, 2010 – Las Vegas, Nevada

The show starts with the first Pro’s Poll to rank all the NXT rookies.

  1. Daniel Bryan
  2. Wade Barrett
  3. Justin Gabriel
  4. Heath Slater
  5. David Otunga
  6. Skip Sheffield
  7. Michael Tarver
  8. Darren Young

Young says blames CM Punk for being in last place, but honestly the list just looks institutionally racist. Bryan calls out Michael Cole and Otunga in his celebration promo, but oddly not the Miz. Matt Striker says in another six weeks the pros will vote again, and the last place slot will be eliminated. Sure, let’s drag this out forever. Eliminations will go on for weeks, and the winner will get a title shot for any title on PPV. And there’s a battle royal featuring every rookie tonight, and the winner will be the host of Raw next week. Snooze.

CM Punk, Matt Hardy, R-Truth & Wade Barrett def. Carlito, Christian, The Miz & William Regal
This is Smackdown vs. Raw. Chris Jericho is selling a WrestleMania injury, so he sends Barrett to fight for him. Jericho kills it on commentary, burying Cole. Most of this match was as basic as it gets, and was four times longer than it needed to be given how it played out. The final stretch was kinda fun, and Jericho helping Barrett to get the winning pin was the right way for this to end, so at least there’s that. **¼

Did you know Shawn Michaels was retired by the Undertaker the other night at WrestleMania? This is the retirement that will stand the test of time and definitely stick. No doubt about. None at all.

David Otunga def. Daniel Bryan, Darren Young, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, Michael Tarver, Skip Sheffield, and Wade Barrett {Battle Royal}
Barrett was seen as a threat after his win earlier in the night, so everyone eliminated him right away, which was dope. Young and Sheffield got eliminated during a commercial break. Seems about right. Bryan, Slater and Tarver get eliminated immediately after. The last few minutes are Otunga vs. Gabriel, which doesn’t make sense given that the issue is clearly between Otunga and Bryan, but this show isn’t good so why should the match follow logic? At least Gabriel is kind of over as a babyface. But Otunga has a famous wife so he wins the match and gets a guest spot on Raw. This might have been the shortest battle royal I’ve ever seen. Also, the finish made Gabriel look stupid and weak. *
