NXT 131

August 22, 2012 – Winter Park, Florida

Antonio Cesaro def. Derrick Bateman
This was just a good TV match, no other way to put it. I assume Bateman now gets bitter and feuds with friend Bo Dallas, who he’s been needling the last couple weeks. ***

Tamina Snuka def. Sofia Cortez
I see people bagging on Snuka a lot, but she looked really good here. Maybe in a more high-pressure situation she falls apart? I hope I’m misreading the situation because this was fun. Raquel Diaz attacks Snuka after the match. **½

Kassius Ohno def. Jake Carter
Vader Jr. goes from getting a nice spotlight many episodes ago to no-entrance jobber status. He looked alright, even getting beaten up here. It’s much more enjoyable watching Ohno throw elbows around than it is to hear him cut promos for a character that doesn’t really fit him. Ohno keeps beating up Carter after the match until Richie Steamboat makes the save. Kind of sad how things turn out for Steamboat and Carter in the end. **½

Tyson Kidd & Justin Gabriel def. Johnny Curtis & Michael McGillicutty
With the exception of an embarrassing Kidd goof near the finish, this was pretty solid. I’d like to know if any of it is going anywhere at this point. ***

Seth Rollins and Jinder Mahal come out to talk about why each of them will be the first NXT Champion and then they get into a brawl. It’s all pretty boring and they might as well have just had the actual match here.
