NXT 181

August 7, 2013 – Winter Park, Florida

Adrian Neville def. Dean Ambrose [WWE United States Championship Match]
Little surprise that Neville won this thing by disqualification when the Shield interfered. I was pretty disappointed in this, and not just because of the lousy finish. I’m not sure if it’s just that they didn’t click, that they were told to tone it down, or that they just felt like holding back, but damn they definitely held back. Corey Graves and Xavier Woods (why?) make the save after the match. **½

Next up is the Emma vs. Summer Rae dance battle, which is actually kind of amusing but goes on forever. The crowd likes Emma more, so she gets the title shot. Rae attacks her because that’s what every heel does every time in every situation in NXT.

Tyler Breeze def. Danny Burch
I don’t review squashes, but last time around I commended the production’s commitment to Breeze and this time around I have to praise Breeze’s commitment to the gimmick. It’s pretty stellar. N/A

The whole dance battle thing proves to be pointless as they announce that Rae will get a title shot against Paige before Emma. Trash.

Bo Dallas def. Leo Kruger [NXT Championship Match]
If you had shown me a lineup for this episode, I would have guessed that the opener would destroy and that this match would be an FCW snooze, and I’d have had it backwards. Well, this match didn’t destroy, but Kruger delivered the goods for once and the crowd’s reaction to Dallas gave this thing an energy that NXT title matches really need. ***½
