NXT 262

February 4, 2015 – Winter Park, Florida

Carmella def. Emma
I’ve figured out why the Enzo/Cass/Carmella shtick bothers me when it hasn’t for other wrestlers over the years doing similar things. NXT doesn’t tour, so it’s the same fans hearing the exact same routine over and over again. Sometimes they’re hearing it twice in one taping event. It just baffles me. Emma just doesn’t seem to be that into her goofy dancing gimmick anymore. I kind of feel the same way about Carmella matches. Give her an opponent for a real amount of time so I don’t have to watch her squash wrestlers I like. N/A

Adrian Neville def. Baron Corbin {Semifinal Match}
During this match, Alex Riley claims he’s never seen a Falcon Arrow before, and tries to put Corey Graves on the spot about it as well when Corbin hits the move that Bob Holly was using in WWE for years. As expected, Bull Dempsey attacks Corbin while the referee is distracted and hands Neville the win. You shouldn’t be able to call finishes to a match a week out from it. This was otherwise on par with Neville’s matches with other big lunks that don’t deserve to share the ring with him. **¼

In a backstage interview, Sami Zayn spells out how genius Kevin Owens’ plot to get a title shot was. For himself, it’s quite personal and he’s going to beat the hell out of Owens.

Bayley def. Becky Lynch
Sasha Banks comes out during this middling match to “motivate” Lynch, but ends up acting as a lumberjack and tosses her back into the ring when she takes a powder. That leads immediately to the Bayley to Belly. Charlotte comes out to the ramp to silently stare at everyone so that they can get a shot to put in the video package for Takeover. This is, without a doubt, the laziest wrestling writing I’ve ever seen, and it’s the second time during this storyline they’ve done something like this. **

Finn Balor def. Hideo Itami {Semifinal Match}
That’s two Itami matches in a row where he actually looked like he was enjoying himself out there, and that was great to see. This was the best match of the tournament so far, but could have used a few more minutes so that they could have given us something to bend our minds. Balor and Itami make nice after the match, and then Balor gets a round of applause from his Takeover opponent Neville, who was on commentary. ***¾
