NXT 269

March 18, 2015 – Columbus, Ohio

Tyler Breeze def. Kalisto
Jason Albert says that Breeze has been up on the main roster, which makes me sad because it probably means he’s leaving NXT soon. This was a fun little opener that got the Ohio crowd engaged. Breeze has been on a bit of a win streak, so I hope he’s getting a big marquee match soon. ***

This is NXT’s first taping outside of Full Sail University. Neat milestone. They show a video package of NXT’s presence at the Arnold Sports Festival, and of Arnold Schwartzenegger inducting Triple H into the International Sports Hall of Fame. Evander Holyfield was also inducted in the 2015 class, which seems legit, but so did Michael Jai “Spawn” White, so at least he’s not the only play fighter in there. It’s a neat little trick that WWE has managed to make NXT feel like a scrappy underdog that’s growth fans should be emotionally invested in, while being bankrolled by the biggest wrestling company of all time. Worked on me.

Wesley Blake def. Colin Cassady
Carmella gets booed during the intro. Decent enough match with a played out distraction finish, during which Carmella got knocked off the apron and is seemingly injured. **

Dana Brooke is coming to NXT. In Columbus, she pulled double duty, working in the ring and as part of the Arnold Classic.

Alexa Bliss def. Sasha Banks
Bliss, the hometown girl, wins the match by countout. There wasn’t much doing here, and we didn’t get to see the Sparkle Splash, so I was a bit disappointed. Bliss gets the next title shot. Kevin Owens vs. Finn Balor is next week too, so that’s a big show. **¼

Kevin Owens def. Alex Riley
Riley got owned here. Three weeks of build for an extended main event squash was kind of surprising, but then Riley was never WWE’s favorite son and Owens had a rocket ship firmly planted in his ass at this point. Finn Balor saves Riley from a post-match beating, and Owens is forced to retreat for the first time. That’s the craic. **¼
