NXT 329

April 6, 2016 – Dallas, Texas

The only real news on this episode that isn’t about Takeover: Dallas and isn’t about the match on this show is that Baron Corbin won the Andre the Giant Battle Royal at WrestleMania on Sunday. I say congratulations to Corbin, because it gets him out of NXT forever.

Actually, to sum up everyone who is no longer in NXT because of post-WrestleMania call-ups: Sami Zayn, Corbin, Dana Brooke, Emma, Apollo Crews, Enzo & Cass. Aside from Crews who really hadn’t gotten to do a ton in NXT, I’m not mad about this refresh.

Apollo Crews def. Elias Samson
Crews is coming off of a win over Tyler Breeze on Raw, and Breaking Ground showed us, this meant that Crews was moving on to the main roster after this. Samson tries to sing a song, but the crowd wants wrestling. Samson isn’t allowed to use the word wrestling, so they just bring out Crews. Apparently Tom Phillips has a special dispensation to say wrestling. The match was alright, but way too long at 12 minutes for what Samson has to offer right now. Basic rule of thumb should be whatever time is given to a Samson match, cut it in half. **¼

The show ends with a look at Zayn’s last NXT match against Shinsuke Nakamura, and the promise of another match from him next week.
