NXT 348

August 10, 2016 – Winter Park, Florida

The show starts with a contract signing for the Asuka vs Bayley match at Takeover. Nothing really happens, and the most notable thing about it is Bayley gritting her teeth trying to not smile and look intense.

Akam & Rezar def. Rob Ryzin & Adrian Nailz
Are they really trying to get us to associate these jobbers as a regular tag team? At least the way they sold the double powerbomb was nice. I don’t review squashes. N/A

Andrade Cien Almas def. Angelo Dawkins
Nice to see Dawkins getting a little bit of a chance to shine after years of bouncing around as a jobber. I mean, he still jobbed here, but Almas does cool shit so what can ya do. After the match, Bobby Roode comes out to tell Almas that they’ll be facing each other at Takeover. That’a a pretty weak way to build to a match, but hell there’s only 2 weeks left until the show and they need to fill out the card. **

Austin Aries demands a Takeover match from William Regal, so Regal gives him No Way Jose.

Billie Kay def. Liv Morgan
I know Kay worked before she got to WWE, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that from this match. Morgan looked more competent, and neither seemed to have a sense for how to work the crowd or for where they are in the ring. *

Regal asks Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano if their match against each other in the Cruiserweight Classic caused any issues between them, because he’s giving them their tag title match at Takeover. They assure him that they’re as close as family and it’s all good.

Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa def. Patrick Clark & Tucker Knight
Corey Graves spent the match trying to convince everyone that Gargano and Ciampa can’t get along. That’s about all there is to say about this, because I don’t review squashes. N/A

Samoa Joe def. Mojo Rawley
There was a cute moment in this where Rawley proved that his head is as hard a Samoan’s. This was otherwise perfectly fine, but maybe more appropriate for earlier in the card. Actually nevermind, the rest of this episode was all pretty mediocre. After the match, Joe continues to choke out Rawley until Shinsuke Nakamura’s music hits. Security (including Otis Dozovic) holds Joe back while Nakamura casually taunts him and grabs his nose. That was cute. **¼
