NXT 376

February 1, 2017 – San Antonio, Texas

Ember Moon def. Aliyah
This one gets an 8 on the Contrived Eclipse Scale. The rest of the match was fine I guess, but the crowd didn’t care and I didn’t get engaged. I don’t have the faith in Moon that the company seems to have. *¾

In a recap of the Tye Dillinger vs. SAnitY feud, Big Damo is renamed Killian Dain. Dillinger lost at Takeover, but was i the Royal Rumble match the next night. He came in at number 10 (duh) and then lasted about five minutes before being eliminated by Braun Strowman.

Tyler Bate def. Oney Lorcan
I feel immediately affirmed in my decision to review the WWE UK shows as NXT shows. This was about as stock as a match between these two could be. Can we get a rematch in a better position on a show? Thanks thanks thanks. **½

After the NXT Championship match at Takeover, Triple H, Matt Bloom, and Kassius Ohno of all people consoles an injured Shinsuke Nakamura.

Corey Graves announces that this is his final episode of NXT. They show a nice little package in NXT (and a little bit in FCW), his concussions and transition to commentator. The retirement announcement from the Takeover: R-Evolution pre-show is actually pretty emotional. It’s interesting that he’s excelled at being a commentator despite cutting pretty crappy promos as a wrestler. And it’s hilarious that the video is immediately followed by Elias Samson’s entrance, which Graves hates.

No Way Jose def. Elias Samson
Samson waves goodbye to Graves on his way to the ring. Without question this was Samson’s best match to date, with only one chinlock that he actually worked fairly well, and most of the match controlled by the more dynamic Jose. ***
