NXT 378

February 15, 2017 – Winter Park, Florida

Akam & Rezar def. Gariston Spears & Lance Anoai
Lance is Afa’s grandson, and Samu’s son. Spears is a buddy of his from WXW (the American version that seems to train all the Samoan wrestlers). Those are the most interesting things about this squash. N/A

Billie Kay & Peyton Royce def. Ember Moon & Liv Morgan
This is Moon’s first loss. You know how they call Asuka undefeated? Asuka lost a battle royal last year. Moon was actually undefeated going into this match. She wasn’t pinned, so I wonder if they’ll pull an Asuka with her. This was mostly fine, mostly when Kay wasn’t in the ring slopping it up, mostly. *¾

DIY comes out to the ring to thank the fans for voting their match against the Revival as Match of the Year in 2016. It was number 2 for me after the Revival vs. American Alpha, but it’s close enough. The Revival really deserved the Tag Team of the Year award that they got. DIY wants a rematch. Paul Ellering says they can have it in two weeks, but they’ll regret it. The Revival attacks DIY from behind and then bail before the Authors of Pain can get a hold of them.

Hey, Kassius Ohno is returning soon. I kind of like that when the final NXT original, Corey Graves, left for the main roster, they bring back another original in Ohno.

Regal makes a triple threat number one contender match between Royce, Morgan, and Moon for a title shot. That actually makes zero sense, as Kay is the one who got the pin in the match tonight and she’s excluded. I can’t stand her, so I’m not mad about it, but that doesn’t make it any more logical.

Tyler Bate def. Trent Seven {WWE United Kingdom Championship Match}
There was a moment in this match in which Bate blocks a backslide using the sheer power of his massive thighs. It’s important that you know this. Also, Seven again teased a superplex into the crowd, and I wonder if that’ll ever pay off (I kind of hope it doesn’t). Also, this was the best match on this show in a long time, at least since Finn Balor vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, which was seven months earlier. ***¾
