Worlds Collide: Women Collide

April 24, 2019 – Brooklyn, New York

The commentary team on this one is Aiden English, Vic Joseph, and Mia Yim. Joseph isn’t able to carry this much dead weight.

Candice LeRae def. Kay Lee Ray
Earlier in the day LeRae had a tag team win with Kacy Catanzaro over Aliyah & Vanessa Borne, while Ray had a singles win over Xia Li. With both women getting a push right now on their current brands I had no idea who would win. Then they went ahead and built a hell of a little match here, getting the crowd whipped up and more or less beating the crap out of each other. It’s a relief too, because I wasn’t sold on Ray until this match. ***¼

Piper Niven def. Zelina Vega
I don’t understand what they were thinking here, as Vega got the majority of the offense here, and the much more imposing Niven was left to get a flukey comeback and win. Vega barely ever wrestles, why was she protected at all here? *½

Sonya Deville def. Io Shirai
Deville dominated most of this match and it was a total snooze. You know a match isn’t working when you’re forced to focus on the garbage commentary. English is as terrible as ever, and Yim is trying to use too much technical language and ends up sounding like that Miss Teen USA “such as” girl. Take a page out of Percy Watson’s book and just be yourself on commentary; people like commentators who sound genuine. Anyway, this match kind of sucked and Shirai got really devalued. *

Toni Storm def. Nikki Cross & Bianca Belair {NXT UK Women’s Championship Triple Threat Match}
If only the other titles in NXT UK were defended as often as this one. The first half of this match was quite frankly pretty dull. The second half proved to me that any combination of two of these wrestlers in a singles match would have been better than this little mess. The night ends with NXT UK winning the event with 2 wins over NXT’s 1 win and Smackdown’s 1 win. **¼
