NXT UK 73

December 5, 2019 – Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire

Toni Storm def. Killer Kelly
Storm won with the Storm Zero at 2:05. This was fine, but too short to become anything you’d remember. After the match, Kay Lee Ray attacks Storm from behind. Piper Niven makes the save. Storm is ungrateful for the help. Later on they continue to argue in the back. They won’t be becoming friends. *

Flash Mandrews says there’s no contender for the tag titles, and it’s a shame because they’re certain they’d have defeated the Grizzled Young Veterans had Gallus and Imperium not interfered. They lobby the GMs for a title shot at Takeover. .

Primate & Wild Boar def. Dorian Mak & Riddick Moss
Oh my god I can’t believe the Outliers are actually debuting on TV. Mak is just notoriously uncoordinated. They don’t even have Robert Strauss, their house show circuit manager, with them. I wonder if this means that Tino Sabbatelli won’t be returning. According to the commentators it’s the same “we like money” gimmick for this team. This was pretty boring, though if that’s the Outliers’ worst crime then they’re not as bad as I’d feared. The Hunt had a fun comeback leading to the finish, five diving headbutts on Mak for the win at 7:30. Todd Phillips excited tone in talking about the Outliers’ potential even after losing makes me very nervous. “Hats off to the Outliers they are a force to be reckoned with, but do not sleep on the Hunt,” is such a terrible, backwards take on what we just saw with our eyes. **

Jordan Devlin def. A-Kid
Tyler Bate came out to watch after a couple minutes and immediately became the focus of the fans. This one couldn’t pick up momentum because it kept pausing for storyline beats. In the end, Devlin kicked the shit out of A-Kid’s face and then hit the Devlin Side for the win at 7:26. **¾

Jonny & Jazzy Gabert are feeling disrespected because of their losses and Gabert getting ejected from ringside all the time. They unconvincingly say everything is fine between them.

Joseph Conners def. Ligero and Travis Banks {Triple Threat Match}
What’s it gonna take to make them give up on Conners? Phillips actually uses the phrase “down the stretch,” on commentary. Don’t do that. I appreciate the effort these guys put into three-way spots. Sadly, none of these guys are particularly over, so the crowd wasn’t with them. Conners hit Don’t Look Down on Banks at 10:35 for the win. ***¼

Kassius Ohno claims that he lost to Tyler Bate because he made him forget why he came to NXT UK. So the Knockout Artist isn’t throwing fun strikes anymore, because he’s the best British wrestler alive and he’s going back to that style. I’m open to it.

NXT UK General Manager Johnny Saint and Sid Scalia bring out Joe Coffey and WALTER for a firm negotiation. First Coffey warns that Imperium will get hurt if they keep screwing with Gallus. He also hasn’t forgotten that WALTER attacked him when he debuted. He wants the title. WALTER won’t give him a shot for free. He wants Imperium to get a tag title shot. That will happen next week. Coffey quickly accepts. WALTER also wants Ilja Dragunov to fight Alexander Wolfe in a no DQ match. Coffey says that the kid isn’t Gallus, so he won’t speak for him. Dragunov comes out and accepts the terms. I loved this. It felt like a calm crime boss and a wild gang leader discussing turf. It also set up Coffey as a man with scruples. It also puts Dragunov at the center of everything, which is good because he has the most potential in the future. The main event of Takeover is set. Imperium waits for Coffey to leave and then runs out to beat up Dragunov.
